Ilfracombe - the undiscovered Padstow!
The North Devon coastline is arguably the most beautiful coast in the UK and
Ilfracombe is a jewel of a town which sits on the edge of the stunning Capstone
Hill and the soft cliffs at Hele bay.
In Victorian times, Ilfracombe was a destination holiday town, and now it
is undergoing a revival with new hotels, restaurants and entertainment centres
opening on a regular basis. The beautiful Georgian quarter which leads down
to the harbour holds secret gems in the form of hidden shops and high quality
restaurants and is a mere five minute stroll from the house.
The bustling harbour is alive with boats, restaurants, galleries and shops
and most famous of all is 11 The Quay – a masterpiece of haute cuisine
owned by none other than Damien Hirst the famous artist.
A two minute stroll up the hill behind the house takes you to the busy High
Street where you will find everything that you need including banks, shops and
even a cinema. Opposite the Strand is the famous Landmark Theatre with its huge
variety of shows and events. Try the bar there and watch the sun sink below
the sea.
A short drive will take you to the beautiful hidden bay of Combe Martin where
you can explore the dinosaur park and picnic in the grounds. Drive the same
distance in the other direction and you will find the incredible expanse of
sandy beach at Woolacombe, the European capital of windsurfing.
